Hi,
My name is Quinn, and I have been helping travellers for over get jobs in the UK for over 15 years.
One of the most frustrating things about getting settled in the UK is the need for a National Insurance Number.
The main reason is that without it your employer by law has to tax you “emergency tax” – which equates to the top rate of tax.
So how do you get one?
Well that is what this site is about and the way you go about it depends on a number of factors.
The first question I always ask is, “What is your Nationality?”
The reason is, because if you are British you may already have one – and so the question usually becomes – “How do you retrieve it?”
If you are not British on the other hand, or if you never worked in the UK before chances are you need to get one and probably ASAP!
Fortunately there are services that can help you with this process, and if your Nationality is non-EEA (non – European) you can even avoid the time sucking and onerous process of having an “Evidence of Identity” interview. Services that assist with this DO charge a fee, but in my opinion it is well worth the money to know things are happing quickly and painlessly as possible.
I have also included all the information you need to DIY.
Cheers, Quinn Askeland
